On The Issues: Health Care

Posted by Kevin Crouch on July 10, 2009

Both sides of the political spectrum can agree that our current health care is not in its best state. Neither side, however, can agree on the best strategy to change and improve this system. Liberals seek to press through Congress a full overhaul of the health care system, and introduce a government-run plan. This plan would do away with other private plans by lack of competition and bankruptcy, effectively making all Americans dependent on this plan. Some conservatives believe the best way is to focus on lowering costs and increasing competition between providers. Neither of these issues combat the true core of the problem, a lack of prevention. The government needs to put forward a regulation that all health care providers must require its clients to attend a certain number of medical check-ups each year, which would be covered by the plan. This would put an end to the drain on the health care system that is caused by those seeking expensive, last minute care for preventable illnesses. The Congress, by the constitution, has the right to regulate trade, and the health care industry is a form of trade. The Congress must use that plan to make health care function effectively once again, rather than put all Americans on a simple, socialized plan, taking away their choice of their doctor and nature of health care coverage.

Remember that anything the government chooses to guide and control will not sustain its self. The political ideology will begin to prevail or the agenda will change and the pendulum will swing in another direction. We as a people have failed because we are choosing not care for ourselves in healthcare issues or spiritual issues or moral issues. We choose to ignore and allow others but we always have an opinion, just no willingness to take control of our destinies.
Well I know you will keep us interested and informed.
